Charlie Shaw's Revenge

Written and Directed by JOHN LANGRIDGE

Produced by Drop Dead Films

Starring : Cerys Knighton, Bill Fellows, Mark Benton, with James Payton.

Charlie Shaw's Revenge is a thriller which follows an eclectic group of workers preparing for the re-opening of a remote adventure park on the brink of bankruptcy when they find themselves stalked by a silent killer. Cut off from any form of rescue, the survivors must band together to fight for their lives.

In a new exclusive interview on Horror Valentines, Ella spoke with writer and director John Langridge about Charlie Shaw’s Revenge, produced by Drop Dead Films.

Hi John, your production company Drop Dead Films aspires to become a leader in the delivery of horror and thriller films. What more can you tell us about this core focus or mission behind your current work, and what are you hoping to contribute to the wider genre landscape?

At Drop Dead Films, we like to focus on the darker aspects of genre; horror, thriller and action. With an in-house writing team, we enjoy telling stories with depth which inform, scare and entertain. Our new feature film, Charlie Shaw's Revenge is no exception to this.

Throughout the production of the film, we worked hard to develop a tight-knit and efficient core production team, which utilises the constantly evolving developments in camera, lighting and post-production technologies. This template, from development to delivery is  enabling us to create high-quality features in an agile and cost-effective manner.

We also worked hard to establish a strong presence in the local artistic community, providing mentoring opportunities to young people entering the industry by having them shadow experienced HoD's throughout the film making process.

How does the horror genre represent your values and what continues to drive you in this space creatively or professionally, and why does this work matter to you personally?

I've always enjoyed the darker side of cinema, exploring the invisible cracks in civilised society that my characters slip through, never to be seen again. Working in the horror space offers filmmakers the chance to explore such worlds, liberated from the constraints of conventional narrative.

As someone devoted to a genre space that is still evolving in terms of representation, what is your perspective on the role of women in genre today, and where do you see the most meaningful change happening?

While we've come a long way, there is certainly more to do in terms of female representation within ALL genres. The most important development of course would be continuing to enable more female voices in writing and directing. As filmmaking still continues to be a male dominated industry however, we have the responsibility to make good choices when it comes to representation.

Having such a clear vision for the future path of Drop Dead Films, what does participating in this Cannes genre platform mean for your work, and what are you hoping it helps unlock or amplify?

With several feature film projects on our slate to follow up Charlie Shaw's Revenge, Drop Dead Films continues to grow as an entertainment content creator.

We're seeking finance partners, sales agents and distributors to join us as we further develop, produce and deliver feature film and television projects.

Utilising a proven production method over the course of the next five years and beyond, our ultimate aim is to become a market leader in the delivery of solid, entertaining and commercial projects in the popular thriller and horror genres.
