Claire Darch is an actor and emerging filmmaker whose work is shaped by a belief that powerful storytelling and the wellbeing of the people making it should go hand in hand.

With a background in performance, project and risk management, and fostering, Claire is now developing her directing practice while training in intimacy coordination. Her focus is on helping create sets where trust, communication and care allow actors and creatives to do their best work.

Claire, tell us about your journey into the industry and the work you are building.

I began my journey in this industry as an actor, drawn to the emotional depth and human connection that storytelling allows.

Spending time in front of the camera gave me a firsthand understanding of vulnerability, collaboration and the responsibility that comes with bringing characters to life. It was through these experiences that I developed a deeper curiosity about the wider creative process: what shapes a story, how performances are guided and how meaning is constructed behind the scenes.

That curiosity naturally evolved into a strong interest in film directing. I became fascinated with the ability to craft narratives from a broader perspective, building worlds, guiding performances and creating stories that resonate on a deeper level.

At the same time, my experiences as an actor opened my eyes to the importance of safety, trust and communication on set, particularly in sensitive scenes. This awareness led me to pursue training in intimacy coordination, where I am developing the skills needed to support actors and productions in creating safe, respectful working environments.

My mission is to contribute to a film industry that values both powerful storytelling and the wellbeing of the people involved in creating it.

What are you building right now, and why does it matter to you?

Right now, I am focused on training in intimacy coordination while also taking additional courses in film directing and producing.

Alongside this, I am actively networking, building connections and seeking opportunities to learn and grow within the industry.

This matters because I want to be part of a film industry that not only tells meaningful stories, but also prioritises safety, trust and respect on set, especially in vulnerable moments.

What is something about your journey that people may not see from the outside?

One thing people may not see is the diverse path behind my journey, from a corporate career in project and risk management to fostering children and helping give them a stable start in life.

Alongside my creative work, these experiences have shaped my sense of responsibility, care and structure, as well as my drive and ambition to achieve my goals.

They have taught me resilience and the importance of creating safe, supportive environments where people can grow and thrive.

What did Cannes represent to you this year?

At this point in my journey, Cannes represented exposure, growth and connection, a place where creative work could meet the right people and opportunities.

During the festival, I built meaningful relationships, shared my vision, and hoped to support others on their journey by opening doors to collaborations.

Being part of the She Squad also made me feel more confident, supported and empowered to attend Cannes, especially without accreditation.

What does building collective power mean to you in practice?

To me, building collective power means working together in a way that amplifies everyone’s voice, resources and impact rather than operating in isolation.

In practice, it is about sharing opportunities, knowledge and support so we all move further together. I am especially passionate about creating spaces where underrepresented voices feel seen, supported and empowered.

I am looking to connect with people who are collaborative, purpose-driven and open to co-creating, especially filmmakers, creatives, producers and communities who value long-term relationships, bold storytelling and meaningful impact over short-term wins.
